Scrap Sculptures is BACK! Join us for an action packed day of learning to cut and weld metal, and embark on an adventurous escapade to make some amazing sculptures from absolute scrap and junk.
This exciting one day course is intended to help us learn by doing, and by the end of the day, everybody will be able to make use of the most common welding and metal cutting machinery to cut metal to size and make good joints for sculptural purposes.
We will brandish angle grinders, chop saws, files, hacksaws, rivet guns, drills and burnishers to cut out metal to size and put a fine finish on it, and then use stick welders and MIG welders to stick it all together into the most fantastical creations our imaginations can conjure.
This course is an optimum adventure to embark upon with a partner so you can creatively conjure the vision together and learn in tandem, whilst watching out for each other's safety.
You will be provided with all personal protective equipment including overalls, gloves, face shields, masks and hair ties, but we ask that you wear strong footwear which you are not emotionally attached to, as the hot welding sparks damage shoes. Open top boots are not acceptable — please wear leather shoes with no gaps or mesh. Old walking boots are a good option.
The course will be delivered with a higher ratio of supervisors to participants, so that we can watch out for safety, and make sure everybody gets the chance to ask all the questions they need to ask.
This is going to be a great day, loads of creative learning and adventuring with exciting equipment so please book your place before they get snapped up!
The workshop will start at 9:30 but we ask that you arrive 20 minutes early to get ready.
Advance tickets £45 before 28/2 / £50 after
Some of the lovely feedback from the last Scrap Sculptures:
Fantastic day! Learnt loads and really enjoyed it. Phil made everything easily understandable.
Top course. Had an excellent time. Would 100% recommend. Will definitely be back!
This is my second course at Open Source Arts, and what a great day! Scrap Sculpture welding workshop was a wonderful introduction to metalwork- more workshops please.
A great introduction to welding. Really fun and accessible with lots of friendly advice along the way.
Another great course. Met some lovely people. Gained some introductory knowledge in welding and had a lot of fun in the process.
A brilliant way to spend a soggy Sunday afternoon! Well worth the money and will use my new skills and new found confidence in future projects. Many thanks Phil!
We are located on Kirkstall road in Leeds — a short drive or cycle from the centre of the city — directly opposite ITV television studios in the Aire Place Mills complex, along with Seagulls Paint & Aire Place Studios. We are the first building on the left with the beautiful large mural outside!
Address: Unit 1A Aire Place Mills, 143 Kirkstall Rd, LS3 1JL
We have very limited parking on site and encourage everybody to walk, cycle, or take the bus (33 and 34 or leeds bradford airport bus 757, please ask the driver for the stop outside Yorkshire Television or Radio Aire). For those who must drive, there is a very affordable carpark directly across Kirkstall Road, outside Yorkshire Television.
There is also space inside the building to leave your bike.
